Renu is passionate about teaching SAS technologies to transform business processes. New to the SAS Business Intelligence platform? This is the book for you. Renu clearly steps the reader through the many BI tools available to the SAS programmer. Best of all, she clearly uses examples from the payer-side of the healthcare industry. This approach makes the information immediately useful to the healthcare programmer/analyst. Learning a new tool in the context of familiar data is an often overlooked feature of educating the business analyst. Clear and readable graphics and screenshots allows the reader a quicker understanding of the presented material. Wish I had this book years ago!

Good for any age

Got this for our 6 year old granddaughter that loves My Singing Monsters. Yes, I play with her too. She & I did this together
and had a ball. Good for any age, but can be difficult for those younger than 6. Definitely recommend for My Singing Monster
fans.

Roberts spins a romantic tale of love, murder, betrayal, and ghosts in the bayou. Just days before his wedding, wealthy and handsome Declan Fitzgerald (of the Boston Fitzgeralds) leaves his fiancee, his job, and his home on the East Coast to buy a decrepit old mansion near New Orleans. Manet Hall has a dark history, and as Declan progresses with the renovations, he begins to hear a baby crying somewhere in the house. In the midst of this, Declan meets beautiful bar owner Lena Simone. Their romance begins to mirror an older, doomed love from the past listeners will have a hard time stopping the tapes on this one. Roberts can be an erratic writer, but Midnight Bayou shows her at the top of her game. The narration is very good, and for once it is not rushed; James Daniels's wonderful voice embodies both Declan's sexy machismo and his sensitive side. She just keeps getting better!!

I usually ration out my Nora Roberts books so that I can pick one up after I've read a truly horrid book....but, this one I just had to pick up!!! Am I glad I did!!! Nora Roberts writing about New Orleans and the bayous?? The mystery and the romance written by my favorite author??? A match made in heaven for sure. I started this book just before I went to sleep last night. Knocked off the first chapter and went to sleep with a smile on my face.... Today, the book didn't leave my side until I had finished it!! So what if dinner was late getting to the table? So what if my son barely got a nod from me when he got home from school? This was Nora writing about bayous and Louisiana and reincarnation and Lena and Declan and Lucian and Abby...he, that fabulous teenager, understands when I've got "a Nora" in front of me!!
I was hooked from the get go with this tale of love and redemption, murder and sadness. Roberts' touch of romance
interlaced with her wonderful sense of humor and a taste of mystery entertained and delighted!!

This has become one of my favorites!!

I loved this book!! I enjoyed that it was told from mostly the male's perspective and I really liked the lead characters. Declan feels compelled to leave his job as a lawyer and buy a house--Manet Hall--that has fascinated him for 11 years. It is in disprepair and he puts his all into bringing it back to its former grandeur. However, strange things happen while he is there, including flashbacks (memories?) of a murder that took place a long time ago. While doing this, he meets Lena, who plays an integral part in his memories. Declan has a sense of humor and makes you want to believe that people like him really exist. I would have to say my only complaint is that I wish the ending scene was longer--I would have liked to see Lena's reaction to the ring. This is defintitely one of my favorite Nora Robert's books, and I'm usually not into past lives, etc. Buy this book--you won't be sorry. Nora never disappoints!!

New Orleans, a Haunted House and Eccentric Characters!

There isn't a bad Nora Roberts novel, but some are better than others, and this one is right up there in the top ten! It is set in New Orleans, and you can't have a really good story about New Orleans without a haunted house, and eccentric characters, now can you? This is a good modern love story with a feisty adversary for the hero of the story, but the most interesting part of the story is the reincarnation twist that the story presents, different from what you expect it to be. An old crime and "thwarted love" story must be resolved before the present day lovers can get on with their lives. But how can it be resolved when all the involved characters are long dead? Justice can't touch the dead, can it? Well, that is where the mystery comes in. You must read the book to find out if justice is done and if it is, how. It would be unfair of me to tell the ending, or even the crime that becomes the crux of the story. There are a lot of subplots floating around but Ms. Roberts does a wonderful job of tying them together. A thoroughly good read, and hard for me to put down. I read it in record time, because you can't wait to see how it is going to end!

About the Author
Francis Glebas worked as a story artist for Disney Feature Animation on Aladdin, Lion King, Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Dinosaur, Treasure Planet and Hercules. He also directed Pomp and Circumstance starring Donald Duck in Fantasia 2000 and Piglet's BIG Movie. Francis is also an award-winning independent live action movie maker with almost 40 years' experience. He currently teaches storyboarding at Gnomon School of Visual Effects. Francis also works as a creative consultant, having worked with the Irish Government, Korean Government, General Motors, Los Alamos Labs, Walt Disney Imagineering and other film studios.

Love the flipbook + companion CD!

First of all, the book is a lot bigger than I thought. It just sticks out on my bookshelf lol, but I'm fine with it because I really love the flipbook section; it's really cute :P. Anyway, this is a great animation book for anyone interested to learn more about animation. I have this book and the Character Animation Crash Course by Eric Goldberg, and I find both books very helpful. Goldberg's book teaches something Glebas doesn't teach (more technical), and Glebas teaches something Goldberg doesn't. But I have to say I learned more from the Animator's eyes because the author covers stuff like storyboarding, adding color and sound which no other animation books cover. If you already have the animator's survival kit, you don't really need character animation crash course because they are more or less the same. The Animator's Eye is different though, you will totally learn something new from it. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to further his or her knowledge about animation.

The book I've been waiting for

I worked in the industry back when before moving into a teaching career. I know the animation principles that any new animator must learn so I know what to look for in a text book. Over the years the text books I've assigned for the college animation courses I have taught have come and gone. A common problem is a lack of depth into the more intricate working of development and didactic graphics. There also is, quite often, a one size fits all approach to explanations of animation principles and methods.

The principles of animation are our tools. We use them to build our animations so once we have knowledge of a animation principle (such as squash & stretch) we can build anything we'd like with them or use them in a personal and more expressive way than others may choose to do.

Francis understands this. Francis book provides the necessary information new animators need to launch their learning experience without the "do it like this" verbiage. Francis gives the reader information on the tools with user friendly graphics that leaves the personal and particular "how to" decisions in the hands of the developing animation student. At last!

It's an excellent fun read, packed full of gotta have information on the universal principles of animation.Additionally he also has information on layout, planning and the classic components of camera, composition and design necessary in building an animation.That's quite a package.

The principles he shares are used in all forms of animation...2 and 3D, stop-motion and digital. We all use them so the information in this book has universal appeal and application.

It is the book I've been waiting for. It will be the assigned text in all of my animation courses from here on.

Covers It All

First off, you have to love the flip-book on the edge of the pages of The Animator's Eye. It works just like film but breaks it down. This book, the author Francis Glebas and his characters Iggy and Scared Bunny are a lot of fun, but don't let that fool you, this book is filled with a mass of serious information. When it comes right down to it, animation in the form of storytelling covers a huge amount of stuff just to get it get it done - and even more to make it "moving" and fun. This book gets "it". Even though a person could dig into any these areas for more info, the author gets what is takes to get started in animation and covers what is helpful to advance a career.

I'm coming from a background of drawing illustration skills that transitioned to graphic arts on a computer. I also have interests in photography and video. Not being wholly advanced in the animation world, I can only guess what level of experience would find interest in this book. Yet, given the range of information from drawing, to movement, to gestures, to color, to storytelling, to sound, to lip sync, to organization, to structure, to production, just to mention some of what Glebas covers, I think even the very advanced animator would find something to improve upon. For the beginner this should be a must. This book takes me back to some my earliest drawing classes and reinforces some of their very best principles in a more compelling and informative way, like the use of balance and weight to give life to mere lines. The author shows you how to create three dimensional characters with the illusion of life-like movement so as to avoid what he refers to as "zombies".

I like the way he builds from simple basics to get a character and story across. I love the emotional wheel. Art classes have gotten me used to the color wheel (which the author also takes great advantage of in the book) but I never thought to use a wheel for emotions, expressions, and gestures. Simple is better. I really like his use of post-it notes to produce a very simple but moving and easily edited story board. That makes so much organizational and productive sense. Like the author, I have always thought that tracing was a very valid method for learning the way others draw (which was sometimes frowned upon). He touches on helpful software to match your character with the appropriate color, sound, and environment that givs life and emotion to enhance and drive the animators vision. Glebas gives lots of helpful ideas to make animation work better and the process work more easily.

The accompanying DVD shows the finished animation along with the earlier working versions to give you some idea of what to look for and how to progress. One of my favorite things on the DVD is where the author makes a video of himself to show exaggerated emotions and lip movement to use for references for drawing believable character expressions and speech.

The Animator's Eye covers a lot of material, all with practical means to get professional results that will capture your audience's attention and sweep them off into a truly "believable" fantasy world just like Disney does.

Hack Attacks Encyclopedia is a collection of hacker goodies in print and on CD-ROM. Gleaned from file repositories old and new, the collection includes handy, potentially naughty utilities--process listers, password crackers, and port scanners, among others--and scores of text articles. The text articles explain how to extract value from systems of various kinds (mostly the North American telecommunications network and various kinds of computers). Reading articles about how to get free calls from (1980s-vintage) payphones is interesting, and articles (some quite old) written by hackers about themselves and their community reveal a lot of truth.

In order to appreciate this book, you have to take note of the word History in its subtitle. That word appears because the articles in this book, though many of them make excellent reading, deal largely with old technologies and well-known attacks for which defenses now exist. Interesting problems that contemporary hackers may have solved--such as how to get free satellite Internet access, how to defeat ATMs' "service fees," how to defeat password protection on Windows XP, and how to get an overwhelming number of positive reviews to appear for your book--aren't covered. This book is all about the exploits of the past. Articles about how to get free phone calls on old pulse-signaling public phones aren't of much practical value anymore, and viruses for the Amiga computer are of purely academic interest these days (though virus source code, several examples of which appear here, shows up in few other books). Therefore, don't buy this book so much for how-to information as for its history lessons and entertainment value. Read it for its first-hand look at hacker culture.

That said, Hack Attacks Encyclopedia would be a lot better if John Chirillo had looked at his considerable collection of text files and software and unified it with a running narrative. Good historians and documenters of cultures don't just present primary sources without annotating them. They use their knowledge and skill to derive meaning from the primary sources, and perhaps make some predictions about the future. --David Wall

"We're sure someone's thought of this idea before, but it took John Chirillo to pull it off: an encyclopedia of 30 years of hacks, cracks, phreaks, and related endeavors. Yes, there's now a single authoritative reference for all of it.
Hack Attacks Encyclopedia starts back in the mists of time, chronicling John Draper's long-distance telephony adventures as Captain Crunch (that is, before he wrote Easy Writer, the original IBM PC word processor). If you were too young for the '60s or early '70s, Chirillo quotes some anarchist texts that put you right in the spirit. His timelines and narratives then take you through "the golden age" (1980-1989); "the great hacker war" (1990-1994); the age of "zero tolerance" (1994-1999), and beyond the millennium.
Of course, the heart of the book isn't the narrative. Together, the book and CD-ROM assemble nearly 2,000 historic texts, program files, code snippets, and hacking/security tools -- files as old as the '70s and as new as tomorrow's headlines. You name it: password programs, Unix/Linux scripts, remote hacks for Windows systems, scanners, sniffers, spoofers, flooders, keystroke capture programs, virus hacks -- not just one variation but many. Hands down the best book available on infosec

Well constructed text all about cyberculture and the dark underside of security. Within I found writings by Cap'n Crunch (famous phreaker), Justin Peterson, Kevin Mitnick (hacker celebrity), Kevin Poulsen (aka. Dark Dante), L0pht and Masters of Deception (famous hacking groups), Mixter (author of Targa and TFN), and Robert T. Morris, just to name a few. To think there's much more in here makes this book hands down the best title on infosec available today.

Youll love this book!

Revealed gave me a good understanding of the network security. This is the first book I've ever read from the Wiley series. I now know where to turn if I want to get going on something fast. In conclusion this book might not make you a master at hacking but if you want a good foundation and methodoligal approach, take a look.
Denied is the second part to Hack Attacks Revealed, over 500 pages, whose value is in the patches for all the security holes illustrated in the first book. The CD is loaded with compiled programs for securing systems, building firewalling devices, and secure browsing, telnet, ftp, chat, and mail. Again, there are extensive walkthroughs which makes it unique in this category.
Encyclopedia is something completely different. The book is a look at hacking and cracking and phreaking and some I haven't the title for, all from different user submissions from all over the globe. I rated high Revealed and Denied, but this book is much better organzied and a pleasure to read.

Born in Greenwood, Mississippi, the heart of the Mississippi Delta, Endesha Ida Mae Holland came of age as the civil rights movement was changing the lives of black Mississippians. Dirt poor, she dropped out of high school and became a prostitute when she was barely into her teens. By the time she was 18 years old, Holland had served two terms in the county workhouse for theft and for assault. A chance encounter led her to become involved with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), and she became an activist and organizer, taking a new path that eventually led her to the University of Minnesota, where she earned a doctorate and became a college professor. From the Mississippi Delta is a gritty, inspiring memoir.

A MAGNIFICENT READ !

Aside from being a celebration of the human spirit, Ms. Holland's Memoir offers a fresh, interesting, and unique glimpse into the early days of the Civil Rights Movement. This focus alone, I believe, renders the book meritorious.
Ms. Holland tells the civil rights story from the perspective of individuals born and raised in the muck and mire of Mississippi's lethal brand of white supremacy and racial hatred. Through her eyes, we get a close-up view of what had to be overcome; and, what was required of ordinary folk brave enough to get involved in a situation that could and DID, literally, cost them their lives and the lives of their loved ones.
These unsung heroes deserve national attention and recognition if the story of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States of America is to be told in its entirety.
But, if this isn't reason enough to add Ms. Holland's book to your "must read" list, I believe the author's superior craftsmanship will certainly convince you her work is worthy of the acclaim she is sure to receive once her book gains a wider readership. And, above all, the Memoir is a magnificent read!
Usually, I find it awkward and sometimes unnerving to read books written in a black, southern, vernacular. However, as in the case of Zora Neale Hurston, Endesha Ida Mae Holland writes with such a pure and authentic voice, I found myself falling effortlessly into her rhythm.
I'm a voracious reader and the authors I most enjoy are great storytellers. My current favorite is Barbara Kingsolver, and of course my all time favorite is Zora Neale Hurston. Endesha Ida Mae Holland "puts me in the mind of" both these writers.
She also reminds me of Frank McCourt (Angela's Ashes & 'Tis). Like McCourt, Ms. Holland transports you back to her childhood and growing up years with such seamless ease, you find yourself sharing her heartbeat through every single experience she lives to tell about. Almost immediately, I found myself caring deeply about her; I grew to love her mother, her child, her neighbors, her friends; and, I found no strangers among those who populate her world.
What an exquisite gift of storytelling she has! I certainly hope she plans to write more "from the Mississippi Delta," because her talent is as rich and fertile as her source.
Obviously, I've become a devoted fan of Ms. Holland and her work ~ a designation I'm hoping you and I will soon share.
Who knows, your reading experience with Ms. Holland may inspire you to join me in asking Oprah Winfrey to feature the author and her book on the Oprah Show, as well as making "From The Mississippi Delta," an Oprah Book Club selection.
I was moved to make this appeal to Ms. Winfrey because I believe we all benefit from an increased national and world exposure to brave and talented women like Ms.Holland. These women are profoundly inspirational and deserving of our applause and recognition.

The redefinition of inspiration

'Inspirational' has become one of those watered-down adjectives like 'brilliant'. Though we know certain words might signal something monumental, perhaps our frequent usage of them has lost some of the grandeur in their meaning. We no longer arch our backs or allow a goose bump to rise. Behold, along comes a work like From the Mississippi Delta: A Memoir. Dr. Endesha Ida Mae Holland turns the term, 'inspirational' on its ear. What is most remarkable about 'Delta'? Is it the phenomenal story itself or is it Holland's gift for unrelenting and witty story-telling? Holland never abandons humor even at the crux of tragedy. Her pen is as brazen as it is impeccably descriptive. She writes with an immediacy to jar the reader's sense of time so that we relive her most defining moments with bated breath. From Emmett Till's death to Dr. Martin Luther King's visit, Holland's simplest daily encounters mark turning points in American history.
Notably, 'Delta' celebrates the tenacious spirit of a true woman-child. Holland narrates from a clever perspective that never quite chooses between the wise narrator looking back and the rambunctious girl reaching forward. This devise is poignant. Arguably, young girls (in particular, young, black girls) are some of society's most disenfranchised members. When Holland employs that voice, the reader is humbled. One is reminded of Anne Frank's influence. When the worst aspects of humanity are articulated through the voice of a little girl, we see ourselves so clearly--vulnerable, restless, but especially hopeful. Thank you, Doc. Your struggle is instructional. Your literary prowess is an inspiration.

This book should be at the top of your "must read" list.

This is an excellent book that captured my attention from start to finish each of the three times I read it. I cannot think of any people in America that would not benefit from reading this very touching and true story of the deep south. The history of the south after slavery is eloquently highlighted in this very moving story by Endesha and should be fireside reading for children of all ethnic backgrounds.
I greatly admire Endesha's strength to overcome the tragedies she experienced, her ability to forgive those responsible and her wisdom to share this achievement with the world. I congratulate Dr. Endesha Ida Mae Holland on her accomplishments as a strategic survivor, a courageous civil rights activist, a concerned citizen, a stellar scholar and an accomplished author. There have been many books written about the south after slavery, and I have read several of them. From The Mississippi Delta by Endesha Ida Mae Holland, Phd. is the one you must read.

My Wife is a PORN Star

My first book by Larry and I was quite impressed with this book. The story line was great. He made the characters in my opinion outstanding. True the title says Cuckolding but it was well written into the story in a way it didn't seem like the husbands were cuckold. Very good book I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
